Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a relatively inexpensive, yet rather powerful, grease cutting detergent that also aids in the foaming nature of soap. It's been used in all kinds of soap products from your shampoo and facial cleansers to heavy degreasing agents used on mechanic's shop floors. So, in relatively simple terms, SLS is used to make soap “soapy” (which we like because we are accustomed to associating bubbles with clean) and it cuts and removes oil effectively.

You want your soap to be foamy and you don't want oily hair. The problem is that, even in diluted quantities, SLS can be irritating to the skin and scalp. Have you ever got shampoo in your eyes? Burned, right? SLS is likely the culprit of the burning. In addition, SLS has been known to be damaging to the hair follicle.Damaged hair follicles can lead to weakened hair structure and diminished hair growth.

Sulfates are known skin irritants. As detergents, they remove oil so effectively that they can actually strip your scalp's outermost protective layer. With a compromised barrier function, it's very easy for harmful bacteria to get in and needed moisture to get out. As a result your scalp can develop sensitivity, dryness, redness and itching. I'm sure you've heard this one before. Sulfates are widely suspected to speed the fading of hair dye, because they are so stripping.

Sulfates&Parabenare bad for your hair.

Go for natural ingredients

They can cause a number of problems for your hair including drying, irritating your scalp, fading your color, and even hair loss.

To ensure that sulfate-free products won’t further damage your hair, look for products that use fruit or vegetable-based cleansing ingredients.

Parabens mimic estrogen which disrupt normal hormone function.which can lead to breast cancer.

People with sensitive skin find that products containing paraben can cause dermatitis and allergic reactions.

In case you couldn't tell, I don't think there's any reason NOT to use a sulfate-free shampoo these days. why to play with our precious hair and skin by using harmfull sulphates. Most importantly, my hair seems in MUCH better condition after going sulfate-free, and apparently my scalp is happier, too. Have you made the switch yet?
